Staff Attorney RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct general legal intakes for LGBT clients, provide brief counsel advice, and full representation for selected LGBT clients. Will assist other CRLA attorneys and community workers on LGBT-related cases. Will assist in systemic advocacy that may include, but is not limited to pre-litigation investigations, litigation, regulatory advocacy and amicus briefing, and community partnerships and collaborations. Will work with the LGBT Program Director to educate rural LGBT communities about their civil rights. Developing and revising outreach and community education material and training curriculum, planning outreach and trainings, and conducting the outreach and trainings, including making community presentations and media appearances as required. Will support local groups engaged in advocacy on behalf of low-income LGBT communities. Will foster leadership that is able to effectively engage in intersectional advocacy. Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Qualification and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS: Admission to the California Bar. Data analysis and investigation skills or experience. Community education experience (developing and delivering workshops and presentations). Familiarity with LGBT related law, employment, education, and/or immigration law. Excellent legal research and writing skills. Knowledge of and experience with LGBT, rural, and/or immigrant communities. Experience serving low income clients. Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact constructively with diverse populations. Ability to engage in intersectional advocacy and to bring the lens of intersectionality to CRLA’s work with clients and community partners. Media relations skills. Oral and written fluency in Spanish and English preferred. Must know how to operate a computer and use the internet. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of programs and Google applications preferred.
