The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) is responsible for advising TrueAccord’s executive team, Board, and management on a variety of business aspects including but not limited to: the interpretation of regulations governing debt collection practices (at the Federal and State level), and the implementation of a compliance strategy to ensure conformity with all laws, regulations, and policies that govern the company. This position reports directly to the CEO.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create a strategy for engaging with law makers and influencing lawmaking efforts on a State and Federal level to promote innovation and consumer protection in debt collection

  • Create and implement a robust, yet innovation-enabling, compliance and legal program including policies, procedures, controls, and audits (internal and external)

  • Prepare for and respond to government investigations, audits and queries as the principal point of contact - with emphasis on CFPB examinations

  • Develop and manage our in-house legal team and compliance capabilities

  • Deeply understand, track changes in, and adapt according to Federal and State level debt collection-relates regulation (FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA and their State-level equivalents) as well as case law pertaining to them

  • Identify, quantify and mitigate risks arising from day to day operations including threats of litigation

  • Provide practical advice and counsel regarding TrueAccord’s obligations as an employer, including, but not limited to, policy review and creation, employment issues, taxes, and licensing

  • Provide practical advice regarding TrueAccord’s contracts with clients and vendors as well as contract negotiations


  • 7-10 years of relevant experience required

  • JD required, registered to practice at least in California

  • Masters in one of the following or related fields: Law and Legal Studies required or equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing a legal team, preferably in-house at a technology firm (but not a requirement)

  • Demonstrated experience dealing with regulatory oversight and examinations, experience with the CFPB is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience dealing with lawmakers and policy discussions, experience with Fintech related regulation is a plus

  • Developed relationships with consumer advocates is a plus

  • Must be fully authorized to work in the United States

  • This job will require a comprehensive criminal background check
