Bilingual (Spanish Speaking) Staff Attorney DUTIES: Direct representation and advocacy to victims of domestic violence seeking legal relief in Family and Integrated Domestic Violence Courts. Maintain a caseload of 50+ active clients/mth and approximately 50-70 active cases. Conduct Outreach and Community Education events Queens with 2+/mth. Conduct Financial Empowerment and Legal Clinics in Queens with a minimum of three per month. Assist clients’ understanding full range of criminal, civil and available community based services and make meaningful referrals. Represent the Domestic Violence Project at intra agency and city wide meetings. Maintain accurate and timely case files and documentation thereof of all contact and services. Collect and maintain data collection required for monthly, quarterly and yearly statistics. Participate in regular team meetings, professional development trainings, and workshops. Once trained, assists in training staff internally as well as within the community. Supervise legal interns and volunteers as requested. Perform any other DVP duties or projects as directed by supervisor.

Qualification and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS: JD degree. Admission to NYS Bar. Fluent in Spanish. Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and trauma. Proficiency working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles. Comfortable with public speaking and highly motivated to cultivate new linkages. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Aptitude for intense and thorough negotiation and advocacy. Ability to work evenings if necessary. Ability to respond sensitively to clients’ urgent needs. Exceptional interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills and the ability to apply these skills in diverse situations. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and work as a team member. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Must be able to travel between boroughs. Interest and proclivity in working within a multi-disciplinary framework.
