New Orleans
Founded in 1852, Touro Infirmary is New Orleans' only community based, not-for-profit, faith-based hospital. For over 160 years, Touro has been in the vanguard of medical excellence. As one of New Orleans' most enduring monuments, Touro Infirmary stands for stability. Tens of thousands of babies have been born here, and we've treated more than a million people. Our modern facilities utilize the latest technology. Touro is known for its quality and excellence. And while we're firmly rooted in our unique history, the path we've taken has always been a progressive one. In 1923, Touro was one of only fifteen hospitals in the country approved to use insulin to treat diabetes. Today, thousands of people from our community take advantage of our free diabetes screenings and education seminars. In 1929, Touro was one of the first hospitals in the United States to have a physical therapy department. Today, the Touro Rehabilitation Center is one of the premier rehabilitation centers in the country, offering medical services that promote healing and recovery for people with orthopedic conditions, those who have had strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries. Our Family Birthing Center, equipped with labor/delivery/recovery suites, acute neonatal intensive care services and a comprehensive infant security system, has been the hospital of choice for generations of New Orleanians. Touro's Cancer, Diabetes and Heart Disease programs emphasize prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and support for patients and their families.
