Tennessee courthouses evacuated after bomb hoax
On Tuesday, at least 30 courthouses in Tennessee and other public and government building were evacuated following a spate of bomb hoax calls. A spokeswoman of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Dalya Qualls told he media that nine such bomb threats were reported in West Tennessee counties, seven in Middle Tennessee and 14 in East Tennessee. The federal building in Memphis was also reported under threat and had to be evacuated.

Though no arrests have been made until now, the courthouses and buildings under threat were thoroughly searched by the authorities. It was ascertained that most of the bomb hoax callers were male.

Cheatham County deputy clerk Rebecca Nicholson told WTVF-TV, “It was just a man's voice saying simply if this is the
Cheatham County Courthouse you're about to be blown up …” The threats to Ashland City and Clinton were also made by men. Reportedly, a man called up Anderson County and told the clerk who attended the phone “There's a bomb in the building.”

While FBI is working closely with state authorities to follow up on the bomb hoax calls in Tennessee such hoaxes have been also occurring in other states this month. Oregon was the first state with 28 courthouses receiving bomb hoax calls. Courthouses in Nebraska and Washington had also received similar threats. The federal building in Memphis including the federal court and offices for the DOJ, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were evacuated for a few hours following the bomb hoax call at about 9 a.m.

According to Memphis Police, a woman called around 8.30 a.m. and said that she knew someone was going to blow up the county criminal justice center, a main U.S. Post Office, and the federal building. The threat calls were organized and well coordinated to spread fear and anarchy.
