HHC Appoints Corporate Compliance Office

McNulty first took on employment as an orderly and nurse's aide about 20 years ago. His career began in what is now known as the Jacobi Medical Center, transferring patients from one location to another. However, McNulty never intended to make this into a career. The piano player's ultimate goal was to become a recording artist and engineer.

Through the years, he functioned in many different positions within HHC, gaining the knowledge and understanding necessary to tackle his new role as Corporate Compliance Officer. As a Corporate Compliance Officer, McNulty is responsible for guaranteeing that HHC operates within the boundaries of all federal, state, and local laws while simultaneously maintaining its reputation as a preeminent healthcare services provider.

During his time as a respiratory therapist, McNulty cared for patients on ventilators and also created successful treatment plans to assist these patients in breathing on their own. As a hospital administrator McNulty played a critical role in the construction of today's Jacobi, which is a member hospital of HHC.

In addition to his career responsibilities, McNulty attended classes at night and earned his Masters of Science degree in health services administration from Iona College and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law. In his next career move, he became a member of the HHC Office of Legal Affairs providing counsel on a number of areas including privacy and data security, electronic discovery, litigation, research, and more.

Before leaving to work for a private law firm from 2004 to 2005, McNulty finished a two-year fellowship in the HHC Office of Legal Affairs. In 2009, he also earned his certification in healthcare compliance from the Health Care Compliance Association.

“I absolutely see the connection between my early days in patient care and planning and my new role to ensure that the Corporation complies not only with all the laws and regulations, but also with its own ethical standards, its mission and its core values. I know that ultimately the job I'm doing is going to lead to excellent patient care,” said McNulty of his new position.

Immediately before accepting his new position, the Mount Vernon, NY native served as the Executive Associate Counsel within the Office of Legal Affairs. He replaces Ernesto Marrero, who formerly served as the CCO.
