September 2008 is a time Alan Haynes will surely always remember; it's when he made the decision to join the University of Minnesota Law School Career Center. He brought with him extensive experience, including three years spent as Associate Director of Career Services and Diversity Outreach at Brooklyn Law School. His career before then was as impressive then as it is now. After graduating with his JD from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Director Hayes then received both an MA in education and BA in political science from the University of Texas.

Before returning to the educational sector, Alan Haynes served as associate counsel for the New York State United Teachers. The decision to accept this position was surely a difficult one, especially considering it meant sacrificing another career he was enjoying; that of an assistant district attorney with the District Attorney's Office in New York County. Still, all of those decisions that led him to the University of Minnesota also meant bringing him full circle. Director Haynes once taught American history, world history and American Government in San Antonio, Texas.

Now that Director Haynes calls Minnesota ''home'', he acknowledges the impressive members of his team who work tirelessly to keep the student body always aware of the many resources their college offers. Acknowledging the importance of ensuring law students are provided a ''challenging and unique legal education'', this team knows that the impressive numbers don't happen by accident. In 2008 alone, close to 18% of the graduating class accepted a position in a judicial clerkship capacity. Sixty percent accepted positions in the private sector. And it's little wonder with a 99% bar passage rate for first time takers. That's simply unheard of in most law schools.

This remarkable reputation is what drives Director Haynes; it's what energizes him and allows him to focus his efforts on ensuring his law school maintains not only its stellar reputation, but the quality of students who are accepted each new year. And did we mention graduates boast a 99% employment rate following graduation? These things simply don't happen by accident, but rather, a concerted team effort of faculty, students and of course, Director Alan Haynes and his own team of dedicated professionals.
