Upon Hairston's removal in February, Kahn took on the position of acting general counsel but was officially appointed by Steven M. Altshuler, MD, Chief Executive Officer, earlier this month. In his new role Kahn is responsible for legal matters and the related decisions. Kahn is in charge of managing the Office of General Counsel as well as risk management and insurance programs. He also counsels the Board of Trustees on matters of governance and maintains his previously held responsibilities for offering guidance in the areas of audit and compliance.
Kahn initially joined the hospital in 1994 as an assistant general counsel. He continued to work in the Office of the General Counsel in a number of different positions through 2004, when he became the Vice President, Compliance & Privacy, and Chief Compliance Officer with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Since 2007 Kahn has served as the Senior Vice President, Audit Compliance and Privacy and Chief Audit & Compliance Officer.
Prior to his time at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Kahn worked at Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis. He served in the firm's litigation department from 1987 until 1994. The first legal position that Kahn held was that of law clerk under a federal district court judge in the District of New Jersey.
Kahn earned his JD cum laude
in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in 1983.
