The university has denied any responsibility and said that it too grieved the loss of Clementi as he was a part of the Rutger's community; however, it says it is in no way responsible for his death. Clementi was just 18 years old and in his freshman year when he leapt from the George Washington Bridge after learning he had been secretly videotaped in his dorm room. The video revealed Clementi in an intimate encounter. A classmate set the hidden camera up and then posted it online in the following days.

Two Rutgers students, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei, have been charged with invasion of privacy after being accused of setting the camera in place and then making the video public on September 19. Ravi was Clementi's roommate at the time.

This case gained national attention as it focused on both cyber bullying and gay bashing.

The notice was necessary since Rutgers is considered a public entity and state law requires advance notification of at least ninety days following an incident and then six months following the notification a lawsuit may be filed. Failing to do so would have prevented any future lawsuits by the family.

The case against the two students continues at this time and the prosecutor's office is said to be drafting further charges.

Success Stories

LawCrossing was probably the best legal board I have used. I liked the layout and it was user friendly. I tried to use another job board, but it was not user friendly and was kind of a pain, whereas LawCrossing was easy to use to find jobs. I really liked it. I would certainly recommend this site and service to my colleagues.
