Sarka Cerna-Fagan - Director for Employer and Alumni Initiatives

<<Attending and earning her JD from Charles University Law School, Prague Czechoslovakia, followed by her MCJ from New York University School of Law, Sarka Cerna-Fagan had already begun to map her future the moment she stepped foot in the oldest university in Europe; with that first step eventually leading her to the States where she currently resides.

Founded in 1347, Charles University is the leading school within the Czech Republic and is second only to Moscow State University throughout central and Eastern Europe. At Pope Clement VI's order, Charles University was built and modeled on the University of Paris. All of these facts, along with the stellar education she was sure to receive, were factors in Cerna-Fagan's ultimate choice. Few in this life ever have such an opportunity - and she has only moved forward since; as mentioned, she completed her MCJ at the prestigious New York University School of Law.

Before finding her way to Tulane University School of Law, Cerna-Fagan worked as a transactional corporate attorney in New York. For three years, she worked for White & Case, LLP where she eventually opted to polish her skills even further at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. This international firm specializes in antitrust & competition, base realignment and closures, class actions, foreign corrupt practices and IP transactions and licensing.

After her time spent at Paul Hastings, she went to work with Golenbock, Eiseman, Assor, Bell and Peskoe LLP. Here, she specialized in corporate law practice with an emphasis on bank lending, venture capital and aircraft leasing. Clearly, she's gain many years of experience that provides a broad knowledge of domestic and international law. The background that served her especially well as she prepared for her role at Tulane University Law School was her time spent recruiting law school students and training summer and junior associates. She has served in the role of a panelist in any workshops hosted by the New York University School of Law Career Counseling and Placement Office and currently volunteers her time and knowledge as a mentor to foreign trained LL.M. students.

Currently, she serves as the Director for Employer and Alumni Initiatives at Tulane University Law School, where she works to ensure every graduating senior has all of the resources available to make his own decisions about his legal career. She is dedicated to this role and is well liked and respected by her peers and subordinates. She also serves as the school's Director of Mock Interview Program, which provides soon to be graduates the opportunity to hone in and sharpen their interview skills as they prepare to enter the working world and she is also the LLM Counselor. Further, she focuses on intellectual property law and private practice opportunities.

The Career Development Office routinely holds workshops for current and past graduates that provide insight on everything from preparing cover letters and resumes to effective job search strategies to interview skills. Cerna-Fagan, due to her focus on intellectual property law, sometimes holds workshops on this particular specialty as well.

Sarka Cerna-Fagan offers a rare combination of a stellar education, worldly experience and a broad range of legal specialties.
