Lawyers at Hunton & Williams LLP have provided over 2000 hours of pro bono legal services to the National Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program. In addition, the firm's attorneys have assisted non-profit groups nationally, created three neighborhood pro bono offices in Georgia and Virginia and established two pro-bono fellowships for attorneys who make a commitment to pro bono legal services. The firm has also provided legal counsel for international child-abduction litigation and worked tirelessly for children's and victims' rights.

In total, attorneys at the firm have dedicated 4,285 hours of which 2,577 hours were provided to low income individuals in need. Of the lawyers involved in the pro bono representation, each lawyer has dedicated 80 hours of their time which includes approximately 50 hours helping low income individuals with legal matters.

Thomas R. Julin, pro bono committee chair of the Miami office, acknowledged that ''for the first time, we are delighted to announce that our office has accomplished a very challenging, yet especially rewarding task: 100 percent of the 53 lawyers in our Miami office and 99 percent of the 950 lawyers in all of the firm's 14 U.S. offices provided pro bono legal representation to individuals and non-profit organizations that are devoted primarily to helping those in need.''

The American Bar Association awarded the firm with the Pro Bono Publico Award in 1999, and in 2009, Hunton & Williams LLP was recognized with the Pro Bono Institute Pickering Award.

According to Julin, ''our firm is committed to providing pro bono legal services to low-income individuals and charitable organizations. Each year, time devoted to these services must exceed 3 percent of the time we devote to fee-paying clients. In addition, the Executive Committee expects that every lawyer practicing in the United States will represent pro bono clients each year. This is a personal and professional responsibility, a fundamental expression of our firm's core values.''

Attorneys for the Sarasota law firm of Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsburg, P.A. were also awarded the 2010 Law Firm Commendation for their pro bono service. The law firm enacted a firm wide pro bono directive in 2008 to provide a minimum of 800 hours of pro bono legal services annually. According to firm, its intent is ''to exercise leadership to address the legal needs of the poor in our community and assist in building a local pro bono culture.''

In 2008-2009, attorneys from the firm donated 875.14 hours in pro-bono services and were recognized by Legal Aid of Manasota locally with the Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award. The firm provided free legal services for low income and disadvantaged individuals, assisted non-profits in legal matters, mentored pro bono attorneys and participated in community outreach programs. The firm also held foreclosure clinics in wake of the foreclosure crisis brought on by the current recession.
