International Law Firm Bryan Cave Expands its Reach; Opens Paris Office
International Law Firm Bryan Cave LLP has opened a new office in Paris, its fourth branch in last 17 months, following offices in Milan, Hamburg, and San Francisco. The law firm recently received formal approval from the Paris Bar Council to establish practice in the French capital and is expected to house eight lawyers there. The Paris office will initially focus on corporate law practices, including mergers and acquisitions, labor, trade regulation, intellectual property, and antitrust matters.
Mayer Brown Announces 27 Partner Promotions Globally
Mayer Brown LLP invited 27 associates only for partnership, compared to 43 in 2007, reflecting the recent economic slump. The litigation practice won the largest portion of new partners, with 11 promotions. Mayer Brown's Washington, DC, office took the lion's share by promoting five of its associates. These promotions are scheduled to go into effect from January 1, 2009. Mayer Brown follows Latham and Watkins, which announced partner promotions recently.
Troubled Real Estate Task Force Launched by K&L Gates
International law firm K&L Gates LLP launched a distressed assets and real estate task force consisting of 20 lawyers recently. The group — headed by David H. Jones, a partner in the law firm's local office — will assist lenders, special services, and asset management firms with restructuring distressed real estate loans and positioning foreclosed assets for successful sale in US, UK, Europe, and Asia. The firm presently has more than 1,700 lawyers in 28 offices internationally.
