<<But monkeys? That's probably a new one. However, that's what Debby Rose is claiming in a new lawsuit against Wal-Mart and the local health services.

In Springfield, Missouri, Debby Rose apparently has lots of panic attacks. (Springfield, Missouri, causes lots of panic? Who knew?) For those panic attacks (supposedly brought on by a social anxiety disorder), she has her 10-year-old Bonnet Macaque, whom she named Richard.

So she took Richard with her to various places including Wal-Mart. The local health department, however, in 2006 sent letters to the local business community stating that monkeys are not service animals and warning them not to let the monkey into restaurants and grocery stores. Wal-Mart, among other businesses, apparently wouldn't let Rose and Richard in, and of course Wal-Mart has the deep pockets.

Rose doesn't like being forbidden to play with her monkey in public, and she thinks it is all, pardon the expression, monkey business. So soon it shall be decided: can a monkey be a service animal?

One would think that Rose would be better off if instead of a real monkey, she had one of the original Monkees in tow — that would at least provide some singing!
