Reed Smith selects Great Bay Software to secure its network

International law firm Reed Smith, LLP, has hired Great Bay Software, Inc., to globally deploy and secure an authenticated-enabled network. The Greenland, NH-based software company was chosen for its Beacon Endpoint Profiler solution, which allows network administrators to identify network-attached endpoints based on location and type. The technology will enhance Reed Smith's network security, as it will provide a complete and comprehensive view of all network-attached endpoints. It will aid the firm's partners, staff, and guests with secure and collaborative computing across 22 cities and eight nations. Beacon will secure all aspects of Reed Smith's network, including its IP phones, uninterruptible power supplies, HVAC systems, and wireless devices. A leading software-development firm, Great Bay Software develops 802.1X-enabled Endpoint Profiling security solutions for enterprise networks and specializes in facilitating network-based authentication and secure network access.

Herrick Feinstein installs tailor-made digital dictation system
Herrick Feinstein has opted to install Verdatum for Interwoven as its digital dictation system. The technology is tailored exclusively for lawyers and ensures that they will never lose dictation and that dictation will be tracked and accounted for. One can upload dictation from the Internet into the Verdatum system, and a legal assistant can be notified within one minute. The system also integrates directly with Interwoven Worksite and, thus, allows both attorneys and assistants to save time and increase productivity. Verdatum produces digital dictation systems that replace traditional analog dictation and provides network services for dictation tracking and management. Atlanta IP firm hires new paralegal
Shannon Kraiger has been appointed as a paralegal at Williamson Intellectual Property Law, LLC. Kraiger, who has more than three years of experience as a paralegal, has also worked as a copywriter. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Central Florida. The move comes on the heels of the firm's issuance of new patents to its clients. Walnut Creek, CA-based commercial law firm announces expansion
Walnut Creek, CA-based De La Housaye and Associates has launched a new office in San Francisco and has also added two new staff members. The new office will cater to San Francisco businesses and will enable the firm to better serve its clients in the area. De La Housaye and Associates has hired Sherry McKnight as a paralegal and Maheen Sadruddin as a legal assistant. McKnight, who will assist the firm's attorneys with corporate entity formation and litigation support, earlier worked on case support, litigation, and family law. Sadruddin has had experience with real estate transactions and will primarily assist attorneys with corporate compliance and research work. Hunton & Williams raises salaries for first-year associates
Hunton & Williams, LLP, has announced a 23% salary increase for its first-year associates in Charlotte. According to the revised pay scale, first-year associates will now pocket $145,000 per year instead of $117,500, beginning April 1. Justifying the increase in salaries, Tom Cottingham, Managing Partner of the Charlotte office, said that the associates at the Charlotte office handle tasks comparable to those handled by the firm's operations in larger markets. Cottingham expects that the revised salary structure will help the firm recruit and retain top associates.

Brinson Askew announces the addition of a new associate
Rome, GA-based Brinson, Askew, Berry, Seigler, Richardson & Davis, LLP, has hired Samuel L. Lucas, who will serve as an associate. Prior to joining the law firm, Lucas was Assistant District Attorney for Covington. Lucas, who earned his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law, was a notes editor for the Journal of Intellectual Property Law. Former governor joins Womble Carlyle as consultant
Former Governor of Maryland Robert Ehrlich has joined North Carolina-based Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, PLLC's new Maryland office as a consultant in its public affairs consulting group. He is accompanied by a number of senior staff members from his administration. The office will primarily focus on public-affairs consulting related to life sciences projects, crisis communication, and business development. Although Ehrlich has a law degree and joins as a partner, he will not practice as an attorney at the firm. Womble Carlyle, which has about 500 lawyers and 700 staff members, focuses on financial services, information technology, commercial real estate, and healthcare matters.
