A leading legal guide has added Sidley Austin LLP to its 2006 edition for meritorious leadership in law. The publication, called America's Leading Lawyers for Business identified twenty attorneys and twelve areas of practice from Sidley for top rankings. The twelve top ranked practice areas include securities, environment, litigation, antitrust, banking & finance, corporate, energy and insurance. Sidley's national capital markets received exceptional ratings as did their railroad transportation practice. In Illinois, the insurance and antitrust practice groups were also highly rated.

Sedgwick opens its second Texas office
Under the leadership of Laura Prather, the San Francisco-based law firm Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold has set up shop in Austin. This is the second office for Sedgwick in Texas after Dallas which was opened in 2001. It now has twelve offices globally.
Previously with Jackson Walker in Austin, Prather will work in commercial law and litigation, bringing her vast media experience and contacts to the job. The Commercial Practices Group at Sedgwick provides legal expertise in the major business areas including land use and finance, real estate, corporate, IP, business litigation, bankruptcy and antitrust law.
Female attorneys leveling the playing field
Nearly 200 female attorneys from all offices of Winston & Strawn attended the firm's latest 'W2W' conference in Chicago last month. It illustrates the firm's commitment to diversity issues, particularly related to its base of female lawyers.
Statistics reveal that female attorneys accounted for more than 40% of legal professionals and 60% of trainees last year. In addition, more female attorneys are now reaching senior management positions and becoming board members.
Law firms are realizing that this talent, especially at the early stages, needs to be nourished and retained for continued success in a fiercely competitive legal market.
