Female attorneys leveling the playing field
Nearly 200 female attorneys from all offices of Winston & Strawn
attended the firm's latest 'W2W' conference in Chicago last month. It illustrates the firm's commitment to diversity issues, particularly related to its base of female lawyers.
Statistics reveal that female attorneys accounted for more than 40% of legal professionals and 60% of trainees last year. In addition, more female attorneys are now reaching senior management positions and becoming board members.
Law firms are realizing that this talent, especially at the early stages, needs to be nourished and retained for continued success in a fiercely competitive legal market. As reported in Judged Law Firm News previously, with the growing number of female lawyers, many law firms are starting to look at the issues involved in better retention rates and have put in place diversity policies. These include Quarles & Brady Streich Lang; Greenberg Traurig; Perkins Coie Brown & Bain; Bryan Cave; and Fennemore, Snell & Wilmer, to name a few.
