When the dispute between the parties is not settled by a mutual agreement, litigation attorneys are called upon. Representing clients and supervising them in litigation, regulatory, and enforcement proceedings and internal investigations are the basic responsibilities of a litigation attorney. The attorney also participates in business disputes, contested matters, and management of litigation and regulatory risks. Coordinating with compliance department in regulatory and enforcement matters, identifying litigation and regulatory risk factors, monitoring legal and regulatory developments also forms part of a litigation attorney duties. A litigation attorney can provide its services in a range of areas including bankruptcy, corporate, medical malpractice, IP, insurance, family, and many more.
To become a litigation attorney, the candidate should have four-year bachelors degree or international equivalent education, along with a JD degree. Prosecution or securities enforcement experience and/or in-house experience might be beneficial for the litigation attorney position. For a litigation attorney, major case experience is also a plus. Along with good questioning and reasoning skills, excellent communication skills are also important for the position.
