Floater Legal Secretary Jobs The Floater Legal Secretary provides interim coverage for Administrative Secretaries to provide continual and consistent support to the attorneys and the firm.
Ability to work in all areas for the clients is growing enormously and this enhances the employment opportunities for Floater Legal Secretaries. There is no official title given to these floaters. The secretaries however, get to enjoy a variety of work. Assignments could be as short as an hour or may be for months. They give their services as an "overflow" secretary. Floaters are usually hired by law firms that are not small. Floater Legal Secretaries are assigned to various departments which helps them to get familiar with the lawyers and types of documents being produced. They get exposed to quality work done in many different practice areas, ranging from environmental to products liability to general corporate work. The secretaries are allocated work and departments according to their caliber. They tend to gain experience across a number of different disciplines. Being a floater helps a secretary know the culture of a company better. A certain level of experience is always desired. Solid technical proficiency including knowledge of MS Office applications (particularly Word and Outlook) is also required. Ability to work well with others, Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, staff and visitors is always welcome. Flexibility with any work is a must. Good working experience in working with different practices with the ability to read, understand, and apply policies and procedures and legal requirements applicable to area of assignment is essential to be successful in this area.
