A family law attorney represents its clients in various issues including adoption proceedings, rights of fathers, mothers, and the different statutes of each state, paternity and how it is determined, domestic abuse charges, who was abused, spousal abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse and the court's rulings, annulments of marriages and what are considered voidable marriages, etc. Issues related to domestic violence, elder law, juvenile law, probate, etc. can also be handled by them. Family Law comes under Civil Law. Personal relationships are governed by state law, and hence "family law" may vary from state to state. Family law courts hear cases related to dissolution of marriage, nullity of marriage, separation of the parties, child custody, child and spousal support, elder law legal issues, domestic violence petitions, and other family related legal issues. An attorney should have a J.D. degree and/or LL.B./LL.M. degree. A particular State Bar license is required to practice law. Family attorneys have the knowledge of specific laws related to family matters.
