Estate planning lawyers deal with planning for the inevitability of death, such as obtaining life insurance to pay for the costs of a funeral, preparing a Will, a trust and other related documents, as well as wealth management and asset protection. Some of the important duties of a trusts and estates attorney include drafting wills, trusts and other estate planning documents, administering trusts and estates, and competency in tax compliance obligations for individuals, estates and trusts. The attorney is also responsible to maintain wealth management relationships by integrating fiduciary knowledge, financial planning, business development and investment knowledge. They handle the delivery of advisory based services to clients with moderately complex planning needs in collaboration with Private Client Advisors (PCA), investment managers, private bankers, regional insurance specialists and centers of influence. Managing full balance sheet approach, enabling clients to leverage and protect the value of their estates is an essential duty of an attorney. A Trust and Estates Attorney should have a J.D. degree with emphasis on tax planning or CPA license. Experience in estate or financial planning services are always considered to be an asset. Experience in HNW relationship management will be considered.
