Tax Legal Secretary Jobs A Tax Legal Secretary is responsible for ensuring the compliance of its organisation in relation to financial and legal practices, as well as issues of corporate governance. Tax Legal secretary typically assists lawyers as well as helps in preparing and filing legal documents, such as appeals or motions. It is not unusual for a larger firm to place managerial duties on a particular tax legal secretary. Much like a paralegal, a tax legal secretary is responsible for locating relevant information for cases. A Tax Legal Secretarys role covers a wide variety of functions and is partly dependent on the organisation for which they work. Typical work activities include: Organising, preparing tax agendas for, and taking minutes of board meetings and annual general meetings (AGMs); dealing with correspondence, collating information and writing reports, ensuring decisions made are communicated to the relevant company stakeholders; contributing to meeting discussions, as and when required; and monitoring changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment; liaising with external regulators and advisers, such as lawyers and auditors; and developing and overseeing the systems that ensure the company complies with all applicable codes, as well as its legal and statutory requirements. In most U.S. states there is no specific educational requirement for legal secretaries. However, unlike an administrative assistant, a tax legal secretary must be familiar with legal procedures. Many colleges and universities offer programs geared towards this career, however, there is not a degree associated with that of a legal secretary. Rather, students are enrolled in existing legal courses, which have been established for those who wish to pursue a career in law. Tax legal secretaries must have a thorough understanding of the tax laws which affect their areas of work.
