Transcription: Career Mission's Chief Executive Officer, A. Harrison Barnes, explored the association between your desires, fulfillment, and happiness.
Harrison wonders if the relationship between desires and happiness is as simple as it seems. On the surface of it, each of us possesses a desire. We feel that the road to happiness is the fulfillment of these desires. But is it really so? Harrison feels that if you look a little deeper, you may find that your happiness stems from things other than a fancy car or mansion or being married to a rich man.
As a compelling example of this, Harrison presents the dialogue between Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling from the original movie Silence of the Lambs. This dialogue illustrates how we covet and desire things, owing to our basic nature. However, we do not necessarily find the happiness that we desire through fulfilling these coveted wishes. Even if we do, it is a transient stage, where the fulfillment and happiness is short-lived and fleeting. Thus, we have the businessman who begins looking for the next big deal or the politician who covets the next higher office.
In this webinar, Harrison shared with you one of the tenets to finding happiness: the state of loving what you do. When you actively seek out and engage in something you love, you will find that it makes you happy and allows you to grow and improve as well.
