Pasadena, CA — LawCrossing has reported of adding 17,000 new legal jobs to its site in the last week, a move that has assisted thousands of attorneys who received pink slips in recent weeks. Now listing 140,000 latest and exclusive legal jobs, LawCrossing has been one of the biggest supports for legal professionals to beat this recession.
In the latest round of law firm layoffs, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom laid off almost half of its staff attorney workforce, according to Above the Law. Skadden says that the firm created the staff attorney position to absorb peak demands, but the economic turmoil has forced the firm to reassess its requirements. Skadden says it has retained more than half of its staff attorneys.
In another report by the New York Lawyer, Washington, DC-based Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is giving pink slips to 65 of its staff members. Meanwhile, firm spokeswoman Sheila Turner reported, ''There are no planned attorney layoffs. But in these difficult times we of course expect to monitor the economy and staff the firm accordingly.''
Additionally, Indianapolis-based Ice Miller is cutting 2% of its total workforce, reports the Indiana Lawyer Daily. The firm said that the move is not due to the current economic climate, but it was an effort to increase productivity to better serve its clients. The firm spokeswoman Joy Fischer said that the cuts were effective in various support areas, and did not include any attorneys.
''The continuous reports of law firms cutting staff have created panic among everyone in the legal community. Yes, these are tough times, but panicking is not the answer. Even in these times when the job market is really down, LawCrossing collected all its resources and started a vigorous research to locate each and every job opening from all possible resources. Be it the employer career pages, job boards, magazines, publications, newspapers, government websites, university websites, our extensive research has yielded great results. Today we are proud to be able to assist thousands of attorneys, law students, and paralegals everyday,'' says Harrison Barnes, CEO of LawCrossing.
LawCrossing does not charge employers to post jobs on its site and additionally conducts extensive research to list unadvertised legal jobs.
