New Report Says Best Days of Law Firms are Behind Them, LawCrossing.com Finds 8,000 Attorney Jobs in Law Firms
January 17, 2013
January 17, 2013 — Pasadena, California — A new report published by Citi Private Bank’s Law Firm Group and Hildebrandt Consulting states that the best days of law firms are behind them and a return to the pre-Recession days is unlikely.

The report states in the very beginning, “That data suggests that, in fact, the boom years (roughly, 2001–2007) were the aberration, and what we are experiencing now is more characteristic of the legal market before the boom years.” While the report talks more in depth about what law firms can do to retain and grow their business, this also means that law firm jobs will be harder to come by if the predictions are true.

But legal industry job search site LawCrossing.com has been able to track down 8,000 job openings for attorneys in law firms. Litigation, with 2,326 job openings, continues to be the most in-demand practice area among law firms followed by the corporate practice area with 1,100 job openings.

The number of jobs found is significant, considering that the report also mentions, “Firms have been reexamining the mix of timekeepers in a bid to better manage cost, and we have seen a significant uptick in the use of nonpartner-track attorneys. At the same time, many firms have reduced associate hires.”

LawCrossing.com has also tracked down another 9,000 legal staff positions and support staff positions in law firms.
