Requirements Details
Eligibility International applicants must present satisfactory evidence that they have completed legal academic training at an accredited educational institution. Domestic applicants must have completed at least six years of residential study at accredited colleges and law schools and must hold a professional degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association.
Transcripts One official set of academic records (transcripts) issued in the original language and accompanied by a certified English translation that shows graded coursework, dates of enrollment and award of degrees, plus a certified copy of the actual degree from university and law school study.
Letters of Recommendation Three letters of recommendation. It is preferred that these letters come from the applicant's law professors.
Personal Statement This is a brief personal history, with emphasis on the development of applicants' interest in law.
Proof of Competency in English Official score of either TOEFL or IELTS. This requires minimum of 570 TOEFL, 230 for the computer-based, or 88 for the IBT examination. Score reports should be sent to Institution Code 4778. A minimum of 6.5 IELTS is also acceptable.

Application Procedure/Time to apply/Application deadline The school encourages students to apply by January 10th but we accept and review applications thereafter, until the academic year begins. Early application submission allows time for an exchange of correspondence, if the Admissions Committee requires clarification or more information. Most applicants get notified of admission decisions in March. Approximately 20 students from around the world get admission to the one-year program that takes place from August to May each year. LL.M. students normally begin their study in the fall.
LL.M. Degree Requirements There is a minimum TOEFL score of 570 (or 230 for the computer-based examination TOEFL-CBT or 88 for the iBT exam) required by the law school for foreign language applicants to the LL.M. program. A minimum of 6.5 IELTS is also acceptable. International applicants must present satisfactory evidence that they have completed legal academic training at an accredited educational institution. American applicants must have completed at least seven years of residential study at accredited colleges and law schools and must hold a professional degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association.

Course Requirement
LL.M. Program (full-time) Each LL.M. candidate must successfully complete a minimum of 20 semester units of work. International LL.M. students must enroll in the one-unit course i.e. Introduction to Legal Research, and the two-unit course i.e. Introduction to the Law in the United States.
International Commercial Law LL.M. Program Participants are required to complete 40 quarter units.

Details of Courses Offered


The one-year LL.M. Program integrates American and international law students at all levels of study and provides LL.M. candidates with a broad curriculum. Through the LL.M. Program, international law graduates are able to gain a basic knowledge of the U.S. legal system and an opportunity to develop special expertise in a particular area of law.

The International Commercial Law LL.M. Program, designed to provide specialized knowledge in international business and trade with an emphasis on the U.S. legal system in a comparative context. The program and schedule enable legal practitioners who wish to expand their breadth and depth of knowledge to obtain a master's degree by attending 6 weeks of courses for two to five consecutive summers at the School of Law at University of California, Davis. This is a part-time degree program for international and domestic lawyers.

At this time, the University of California, Davis School of Law does not offer scholarships or financial help for Master of Laws program.
