Paralegal/Legal Assistant II
The candidate reviews case materials to become familiar with questions under consideration. May participate in interviews of potential witnesses and prepares summary interview reports for the attorney's review. Participates in pre-trial witness conferences, notes possible deficiencies in case materials (such as, missing documents, conflicting statements) and additional issues or other questionable matters, and requests further investigation by other agency personnel to correct possible deficiencies or personally conducts limited investigations at the pre-trial stage. Prepares and organizes trial exhibits, as required, such as statistical charts and photographic exhibits. Prepares summaries of testimony and depositions. Drafts and edits non-legal memoranda, research reports and correspondence relating to cases. Reviews matter files to become familiar with the matters to which they are assigned. Performs factual research. Organizes, labels, indexes, creates and maintains logs. Document review: electronic and hard copy, review for evidence, key words, witness information, and other matter-related facts. Works with translators to identify relevant documents for translation. Maintains and organizes translated documents. Database entry and searches. Objectively and subjectively code relevant documents into Summation. Runs Summation searches and print reports. Assists in the development of search term criteria and lists. Assists with the preparation and organization of document review databases. Interfaces with technical support staff to maintain integrity of document review databases. Prepares charts, tables, logs, and lists. Evidence summaries (such as, charts of telephone calls between competitors, spreadsheets of attendees at meetings, tables of rigged projects, timelines of events). Assists in preparation of witness and exhibit lists and cross-reference lists. Prepares witness folders and notebooks. Runs Summation searches for relevant documents and print results. Compiles and organizes documents and relevant materials into tabbed and labeled folders and/or notebooks. Prepares reports and summaries of factual research (oral and written). Prepares summaries of testimony and depositions. Attends meetings with staff. Planning and strategy meetings (in observational/lay role or to assist in presentation of visual information). Attends court sessions, depositions, and witness interviews, in observational role or to assist with electronic equipment and document management.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a paralegal certificate An equivalent level of legal training may be substituted with the approval of the COTR. Must have 2+ years of litigation paralegal experience. Trial experience very helpful. Should have 1+ year of experience in automated litigation support. Should have sound working knowledge of legal system, legal research procedures and sources of information. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, analytic ability, and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as Lexis and Westlaw. Should have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, imaging, and telecommunications. Thorough knowledge of Summation iBlaze and Enterprise, as well as CaseMap is desired.
