Law Clerk / Legal Advisor
The candidate will be responsible for attending all sessions of the Court, serving as the Judge's courtroom deputy, and managing the criminal docket. Work closely with two elbow law clerks and secretary in managing the docket. As part of managing the docket, will be responsible for drafting jury instructions in criminal cases, addressing substantive pre-trial and post-trial motions, drafting orders for the Court's signature, performing research to assist the Court, preparing trial materials for Judge and drafting sentencing memoranda. Manage the courtroom during trials, operate and assist attorneys with the technological equipment in the courtroom, and maintain the minutes sheets for all time Judge spends in the courtroom. Perform other duties, as assigned, and be a liaison between the Court and litigants. A degree from a law school of recognized standing in the upper one-quarter of the class (or certified completion of all law school studies and requirements, and merely awaiting conferment of degree) is required. Must have excellent research and computer skills. Law Review experience, publication of a noteworthy article in a law school publication or other scholarly publication, moot court experience or prior legal employment is preferred. Must be willing to commit to 2+ years of employment with the court.
