Job Title Attorney in Sault Sainte Marie, MI Job Profile Senior Attorney The candidate provides legal services to the Tribe's operations at an advanced level with minimal direct supervision. Candidate will report to the General Counsel. Duties: Provides high-level legal services to all departments within the Tribe's operations. Work in numerous areas of the law and to handle complex legal issues with broad structural legal ramifications. Areas of responsibility may include: gaming; contracts; business law; tribal law; tax and ERISA law; employment law; and such other issues as may arise. May also be assigned to represent the Tribe and its entities in transactions, negotiations and litigation in tribal, state and federal courts. Will generally perform any other service constituting the practice of law which lay-people are prohibited from performing and other duties as assigned by the General Counsel. The Senior Attorney, as distinguished from the Attorney, is expected to routinely perform sensitive and complex legal assignments that have significant impacts on services or programs and to do so with substantial independence and judgment. Qualification and Experience The candidate must possess a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school and be admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan. 5+ years of experience is required in relevant areas of law such as gaming, contracts, employment, and Indian law.
