Paralegal, Court Liaison
Duties: Obtains copies of court dockets and notifies staff and attorneys of any hearings or motions relating to organization's cases. Meets with program supervisors to discuss scheduled or requested hearings regarding active organization's cases. Promotes positive relationships, cooperation and high regard among staff, DCF attorneys and staff, representatives of the court and legal system and clients. Communicates with court employees and judges to keep them informed of programs and services. Provides formal and informal training to staff and clients regarding court processes and appropriate behavior. Tracks dates for review hearings and in collaboration with the program supervisors assures these are on the court schedule and that all involved parties are informed. Identifies any communications or procedural problems between the staff and the legal systems and works with all parties to resolve them. Staff cases with supervisor/team/providers/DCF/attorney as needed. Prepare summary reports for the Director of Program Operations regarding scheduled legal conferences or hearings and case outcomes before the court. Participate in the quality improvement process. |

| Qualification and Experience |
 |
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in human services, allied legal services, business administration or similar field. One year of experience with dependency proceedings, preparation of reports for the courts, court testimony, and child welfare or child protective services. Knowledge of law and legal procedure. Knowledge of legal terminology. Skill in use of Microsoft Office Products. Ability to display appropriate social skills and diplomacy. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting organizational rules, policies and procedures. Ability to perform routine to complex administrative support activities; research and compile data; and prepare correspondence and reports. Ability to analyze complex data. Preferred: Completion of an accredited paralegal/legal assistant program or certification as a legal assistant.
