Term Administrative Law Clerk
Duties: Receive, screen and refer telephone and in-person callers. Answer general inquiries from knowledge of Judge's activities and office operations. Handle administrative matters in chambers including preparation of annual reports, travel vouchers and correspondence. Finalize pleadings for Judge and law clerks. Docket Memoranda and Orders on CM/ECF. Draft orders for Judge. Screen incoming mail and handle routine matters. Route mail to appropriate destination. Maintain stock of office supplies for chambers. Update advisement lists for BAP cases and District of NY cases. Prepare Master Calendar and coordinate dates with U.S. Trustee and Judge chambers. Maintain Judge's calendar; schedule, change and cancel appointments as directed. Arrange meetings and conferences for Judge and support personnel. Arrange business travel for Judge and law clerks, including plane tickets, hotel, lodging, auto rental, and so forth. Prepare and submit travel vouchers. Perform errands and other functions as assigned by Judge. Maintain and organize BAP files. Responsible for legal research and writing; drafting orders and opinions for judicial review; research legal issues relating to each case; and make recommendations to Judge on individual cases. Perform computer legal research via Westlaw. Keep abreast of changes in the law from the Supreme Court and Second Circuit.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must be a graduate of an ABA accredited law school with strong academic credentials. Should be a licensed attorney (out-of-state license acceptable). Superior research and writing skills are required. Should be proficient in computer assisted research, Windows and Word Perfect (or Word). 1+ year of legal experience after law school is needed. Federal Bankruptcy knowledge preferred.
