Judicial Law Clerks The Honorable Administrative Judge, Thomas J. Love The candidates will provide legal support to District Court judges. Will work with several judges in varying court locations and gain exposure in own legal community. Responsibilities include: Conducting legal research, drafting memoranda/proposed orders/opinions for District Court judges. Assignments may also include assisting administrative judge with issues relating to special programs (drug court, ADR, domestic violence); working with prosecutors, Bar, and support agencies to coordinate case management improvements; reviewing and summarizing case files; organizing evidence; calculating damages for complex cases; responding to attorneys and self-represented litigants. Frequent intrastate travel among court locations within the geographic district is required. Candidates can also expect to interact heavily with the Administrative Judge, District Court Judges, attorneys, the public, local court-related agencies and service providers on a regular basis.

Qualification and Experience

The candidates must have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Candidates enrolled in, but not graduated from, an accredited law school will also be considered. Must be knowledgeable of Maryland law and procedure, and of the function and jurisdiction of the District Court of Maryland. Must be computer proficient and be experienced in the use of word processing software (preferably WordPerfect or Word); be proficient in performing all types of legal research, including on-line and web-based research; have sound logic, excellent organizational, problem solving, communications and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to compose written reports and business/legal correspondence. Law clerks must have reliable transportation and be available for intrastate travel as needed.

Note: The normal contractual term is from September 1 through August 30. Selected candidates with a J.D. degree from an accredited law school will be paid $16.34/hour. Those enrolled in, but not graduated from, an accredited law school will be paid $14.84/hour.
