Senior Patent Counsel
Duties: Will report to one of the Associate Intellectual Property Counsel supporting the Pharmaceutical Sector. Support the oncology therapeutic area or another therapeutic area within the pharmaceutical sector, as workload demands. In addition, will provide a full range of patent support functions (including patent preparation and prosecution, freedom-to-operate studies and rendering opinions, managing outside counsel, licensing agreements, due diligence support for business development, and client counseling) as background permits. Will regularly make presentations and interact with the business with regard to patent and contractual issues.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Undergraduate or advanced degree in a biochemical/molecular biology field. A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Must be admitted to the USPTO and licensed to practice in at least one state. Senior Patent Counsel with 5+ years of law firm or corporate law department experience will be considered. Should be capable of giving well organized, thoughtful presentations to upper management. Demonstrated background in biochemical/molecular biology is required. Ability to additionally support small molecule products or small molecule prosecution is preferred. Applicant should have substantial experience drafting and prosecuting biotechnology-related or small molecule patent applications is required. Demonstrated competencies in the pharmaceutical or biologic arts is strongly preferred. Must have experience in independently drafting and prosecuting patent applications in U.S. and foreign countries in the pharmaceutical/biologic areas is required. In addition, must have experience in rendering patentability and infringement opinions. Experience in due diligence activities required and experience in license drafting and negotiation is a plus. Some domestic and international travel may be required.
