Regulatory Counsel - Mortgage Default
The candidate will work on regulatory and compliance matters and report directly to the both the Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel. Will collaborate with other company counsel, as well as business unit managers and compliance executives, to review, evaluate, analyze and provide counsel on regulatory and compliance matters involving federal and state laws and other regulations governing mortgage banking and servicing. Keep abreast of regulatory and legal developments governing consumer lending and mortgage banking, as well as provide counsel to other departments regarding pending legislation pertinent to the company. Also collaborate to develop, revise and implement procedures, policies and programs that reflect compliance with applicable laws, rules and recommendations.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have an undergraduate degree and a J.D. degree. Should also have admission to a State Bar with an active membership in good standing. Must have 8+ years of corporate bank regulatory experience including default servicing, foreclosure, bankruptcy and other mortgage lending laws and standards. Should have experience in strong policy and documentation review skills and a proven track record in assisting companies in reviewing and implementing financial regulation. Must have experience working in a practice on behalf of clients from the banking or financial services sectors OR should have been in house counsel to a large financial services provider. Must have strong working knowledge of mortgage business operations procedures, including mortgage servicing operations and procedures. Experience performing researching and writing on a variety of rules, regulations and updates is needed.
