5.Current Employee, more than 8 yearsOpportunityAttorney in Seattle, WARecommendProsFor attorneys looking to make partner: (1) Carney tells you the date you are scheduled for admission and every year, lets you know if you are on track; (2) unlike some firms, Carney does not worry about sharing the pie, and welcomes young partners if they perform good legal work, and have good people skills; (3) Carney is a work life balance firm - unless someone has a deadline, the office is a morgue after 600 pm and on weekends; (4) Carney is VERY collegial with almost no drama and fun opportunities to bond such as the weekly Thursday night attorneys Happy Hour including food and adult beverages; (5) Carney instituted a no jerks policy in the mid 90s when a few attorneys were asked to leave - today, regardless of the size of somebodys book of business, if the person treats people poorly, he/she will not be offered employment or partnership; (6) the firm is very profitable and the attorney compensation system is objective and there is no such thing as the senior partner who takes a bigger cut just because - it is all based upon the attorneys production and origination; and (7) the quality of legal work is excellent.ConsIt is still work. And of course law can be demanding at times if you have a trial or a closing.
