I appreciate the way you allow people to have a life outside of work, but understand that they also have to engage in some networking that can make the required work hours more like that of most firms - make this kind of networking easier on people so they can maintain this sense of balance. Don't let people's personal traits interfere in how decisions are applied to them.
Above-average commitment to work-life balance, demonstrated by opportunities for remote working. Hasn't totally lost sight of the ""small firm feel"" - mostly pleasant vibes in general.
It seems like too many decisions are influenced by ""office politics"", yet at the same time, the firm does not make it sufficiently easy for you to perform certain kinds of client-based networking. This makes it a little difficult to find a good niche where you can live up to your potential.
Treat your employees better. Raise employee morale.
Lawyers are creative and sophisticated. The people are exceptional. You get to work with all kinds of clients. It has the advantages of a large firm.
There is an issue with cliques. Morale is sometimes low.
The partners need to unite behind a management team that generally reflects their common goals and objectives. Information sharing among non-equity partners and staff needs improvement since lack of information sharing suggests lack of trust of generally very trustworthy and productive team members.
HLP has enabled me to grow my practice since joining the firm more than 10 years ago, thru support from highly experienced and responsive practice group members of other offices, primarily Cleveland, as well as thru expansion locally thru the hiring of partners, associates and paralegals. Practice direction, style and philosophy have generally not been micro-managed and the delivery of high quality legal services at a reasonable price is the standard. The compensation has been very fair at the partner level especially for those who originate significant business.
Information sharing has been an issue for attorneys and staff. Support has sometimes been lacking due to perceived roles of office administration leadership but that is being addressed by new leadership in multiple ways. Firm management issues and problems have existed and apparently are being addressed. The firm has lost some long time partners in some of the Ohio offices suggesting concerns about expansion, compensation, and/or direction by management.
Thank you.
