Profile

Director of Knowledge Management The candidate will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will work collaboratively with the Firm's practice group leaders as well as with existing teams focused on information technology, client technology, practice economics, legal research, marketing and professional development. Will help shape and implement KM processes, including the implementation of innovative content, tools, methods and technologies. Working with stakeholders across the Firm to understand the current state of KM and the unique needs of each practice group with the goal of redesigning a comprehensive KM program & KM Strategy that aligns with the Firm's strategic objectives. Working with attorneys, analysts, technologists, and administrative professionals to identify where relevant information is held; identifying and implementing best practices for capturing data; ensuring that connections between Knowledge Management systems and relevant data sources and software are integrated to allow for seamless exchange of information across systems. Contributing to overall strategic guidance and recommendations for the Firm's collaboration and document sharing architecture. Improving experience location to support doing legal work, assigning work, and developing new business. Providing a KM environment for legal professionals with a great user experience, useful taxonomy, effective search, and high-quality support. Creating, maintaining, and organizing web content, exemplars, toolkits, templates, practice notes, training presentations, and other resources. Partnering directly with each legal practice area to integrate KM best practices and tools into fundamental business processes and local cultures to ensure the knowledgebase is kept current. Serving as a champion and change agent to socialize knowledge management opportunities throughout the Firm, communicating and evangelizing knowledge management techniques and solutions; and driving best practices in knowledge sharing. Analyzing and understanding impediments to attorney adoption of knowledge management systems; defining requirements that are necessary for improvement; developing new and revised protocols; developing and administering analytical reports to monitor utilization and efficacy of various knowledge management applications; identifying and managing enhancements to knowledge management system components; and overseeing implementation of solutions through deployment and adoption.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should desirably have JD Degree, Computer Science, MBA, or MLS degree. 5+ years of legal practice, research, knowledge management or analytical experience in a law firm or corporate setting preferred. Experience with process improvement methods such is Six Sigma, Lean Sigma, Kaizen or similar methodology is ideal. Experience with data analytics, Al, concept search, predictive coding technology is a plus. Proven experience delivering legal knowledge management concepts, solutions and services; experience developing strategic or departmental planning materials that required consensus gathering from multiple constituents. Working knowledge of all major legal applications, including SharePoint Intranet/Extranets, Recommind, iManage, Elite, WestKM/Lexis Search Advantage, and Document Automation (Contract Express, HotDocs, etc). Demonstrated mastery of both the practice and the business of law. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office required. Familiarity with Watson, Kira, Seal Software, Ravn and other leading-edge KM technology. Ability to gain consensus and collaboration across many business groups; ability to explain complex concepts in layman's language; ability to generate enthusiasm; ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff. Ability to plan and organize projects to meet deadlines and objectives, particularly where content creators are not direct reports and are being asked to collaborate amidst competing obligations. Ability to manage high job complexity. Ability to gain strong institutional knowledge about law firm processes. Advanced knowledge of the workflows and the core needs of lawyers; ability to generate pragmatic solutions to knowledge management needs.
