Deputy General Counsel Duties:The candidate will assist the General Counsel in the exercise of duties. Will work on representation of the Department in civil actions brought on beh defended byr the Department. Response by the Department to employee grievances, complaints, and investigation and response on ethical issues. Aids the General Counsel in the defense of the Workers’ Compensation Trust Fund (WCTF) and the reimbursement programs of the WCTF as mandated by statute. Advises the General Counsel on policy development, personnel matters, and public records retention issues Assigned tasks which further the Department’s mission through agency adjudication, to act as liaison with the Attorney General, and to enter into settlement agreements and contract negotiations.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification and Experience: The candidate should have Juris doctorate degree. Admittance to the Massachusetts Bar is required as well as being a member in good standing. A thorough knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, and Chapter 152, Workers’ Compensation Act in particular is essential. Experience in civil, administrative and appellate law is required.Experience in MCAD and employee grievance procedures. Should have 5+ years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, supervisory or managerial experience in the practice of law and (B) of which 1+ years of must have been in a managerial capacity. Should have current licensure and/or registration requirements established for the performance of the duties of the position. Knowledge of the Rules of Evidence is essential. Knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure is required.
