Profile

Head of Trust Tax The candidate will be responsible for guiding trust policy and ensuring compliance with highly complex IRS and States' tax authority regulation and reporting procedures. Will be responsible for managing a 3rd party vendor contract of approximately $5MM/year in direct expense in addition to an operating expense of $4.5MM, accounting for services provided to over 80,000 clients (Ascent, PCR, Community Wealth, PCG, IT&C) and over $13MM of annualized client tax fee revenue. Will make decisions with key business partners (Legal, Risk, Compliance, PWC and Operations) to ensure new investment products, transactions and processes are accounted for accurately and reported to the IRS and state tax authorities properly. Reporting to this individual will be 5 exempt managers with a total staff of 25 comprised of Tax Managers, Accountants, Processors and Operations personnel. Will have ultimate oversight of policies/procedures specific to Trust Tax and as primary liaison with Fiduciary Services, will set tax policy standards for the Personal Trust and impacted IT&C business lines. Work with senior leaders across PCR, Ascent, IT&C, Charitable Services Group and Community Wealth on complex tax situations and represent in direct client meetings related to tax. Will partner with senior operations leaders and business partners across the bank as it relates to tax processing, communication and data. Will also be responsible for implementing, managing and monitoring the necessary controls and risk mitigation points associated with tax processing and related regulatory reporting. In partnership with WM Operations and Business Architects, will sponsor process solutions and system enhancements that will drive efficiencies and consistencies across the Personal Trust business lines. will manage the tax budget including controlling costs and reducing expenses, communicating business needs and objectives to senior leaders and work directly with Contract Services on contractual negotiations associated with the tax outsourcing arrangement. Vendor management responsibilities include oversight of service standards, quality assurance review, monitoring and reporting, managing key tax processes and related data across multiple business functions and applications. Will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all Bank policies & procedures including those specific to Trust Tax technical details.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: BA, MBA (i.e. Masters of Tax), Tax Attorney (J.D.), CPA. 15+ years of industry experience with a comprehensive understanding of trust tax and related regulatory reporting requirements. Requires expert level of strategic thinking and strong management skills including vendor management relationships, planning, budgeting and people management. Strong analytical and problem solving skills to handle complex trust tax issues, estate situations and qualified plans. Well developed verbal and written communication skills. Considerable tact, diplomacy and people skills.
