Profile

Business Development, Trusts and Estates Duties: Will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the NY Head of Trusts and Estates to ensure alignment with goals and priorities for the region. Support the North American strategic plan and departmental goals to build client base and further develop existing relationships with fiduciaries. Develop, in accordance with the North American strategic plan and as directed by the West Coast Chairman and NY T&E Head of Department, and carry out targeted approaches either geographically or by firm reflecting business strategy, including lecture series, targeted lunches and other events/symposia with attorneys and fiduciaries, and collaborative events with law firms, banks, trust companies etc. Attend, as needed, conferences hosted by professional organizations (i.e., ACTEC, ABA, Heckerling Institute etc.) at local, regional and national levels at either a sponsor or exhibitor level to gain maximum competitive exposure. Support the Chairman, West Coast, in collaboration with senior business getters (Senior Business Development Department, Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Specialists), in competing for prospective new consignment and appraisal business; i.e., act as primary contact for fiduciary involved in the matter, deliver client pitches etc. Effectively manage existing client relationships with fiduciaries as well as target and build new relationships. Assist the Chairman, West Coast with development of best practices pertaining to valuations (in conjunction with the Valuations Manager), consignments and other client services as may result from business development or may be assigned. Assist the Chairman, West Coast with or manage projects as may be assigned (e.g. the preparation and publication of a quarterly or bi-annual Trusts and Estates Department, development of possible lectures and presentations geared to company's Trusts and Estates clients, implementation of new systems or other similar projects). Keep apprised of new developments in Trust, Estate and Gift law and tax related developments. Review Valuation, Consignment and Storage Agreements as needed by the Department, in conjunction with the Legal Department. Assist with overseeing daily obituary practice (review daily obituaries and weekly Bernhardt Report; oversee drafting and distribution of e-mails to appropriate client teams; follow up with client teams on potential business).

Qualification and Experience

Qualification Requirements: A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. 4-6 years of relevant business and legal experience, preferably in the art/auction industry. Professional interpersonal style that will help build successful business relationships. Must have superior interpersonal skills. Must be able to successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong ability to prioritize and willingness to take responsibility. Excellent organizational and communications skills and ability to interact with a broad variety of clients, internal and external.
