Program Director of Gift Planning Duties: Will be responsible for carrying a prospect portfolio of 75-100 donors. Utilizing the tenets of moves management, prospects will be moved through the pipeline and managed for further cultivation, solicitation and/or stewardship. Take the primary lead on web site creation and maintenance with the assistance of outside vendors (due to the technical nature of Gift Planning). Actively manage and execute external marketing and communication to promote gifts from alumni, parents and friends of University through direct mail and electronic communications. Administer and implement new projects, in partnership with Gift Planning Assistant Vice President, by assuming autonomous responsibility for creating and designing communication pieces, tracking responses, researching biographical data of participants, and implement the appropriate solicitation strategy with participants. Serve as a resource of information about charitable gift planning and related tax, legal, and investment questions. Maintain awareness of Federal and State legislation and regulations affecting charitable giving. Work with Gift Planning team to establish objectives, set performance standards and productivity measures and evaluate performance. Maintain appropriate levels of training and professional development. Incorporate and embrace the needs of diverse populations in program planning. Attend both University and University Advancement events, programs and meetings. Assist the Gift Planning team in preparation for and providing training sessions for staff and volunteers within University Advancement. Provide input and assistance with the annual budget and goal setting exercise.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business, sciences, liberal arts, engineering, public administration or related field OR Master’s degree in business, public administration, non profit studies, or related field. 5+ years major gift fundraising or related client relations experience (legal, sales, marketing or financial environments. Track record of measurable results in the cultivation, solicitation, securing, closing and stewarding gifts/sales >$100K. Willingness and ability to travel and work evenings/weekend hours. Preferred: Advanced Degree, CPA, legal or financial field background. Professional certifications such as CFRE, CFA, JD Degree, or other related professional competencies. Prior fundraising experience in a university setting or general experience in higher education setting. Understanding of planned giving options and appropriate application for donors. Familiarity with legal and financial instruments such as wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, financial statements, etc. Exposure and familiarity with large donor data bases such Ellucion Advance and planned giving software such as PGCalc or Crescendo. Demonstrated ability in understanding the importance of cultivating and maintaining relationships between donors and development staff. Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects and steward donors for planned and major gifts. Through this process, work toward meeting or exceeding annual goals. (For FY 17: 100 active prospects; 25 proposals, 125 meaningful contacts, 100 personal visits). Oversee and implement a complex system including but not limited to: donor identification, cultivation, gift negotiation, solicitation and stewardship. Utilizing the tenets of moves management, prospects will be moved through the pipeline and either managed by the Director of Development or moved to a college or unit for further cultivation, solicitation or stewardship. Assist the University Advancement frontline fundraising team in their efforts to secure bequests, trusts, beneficiary designations, and other gifts and provide ongoing stewardship to donors. Consult with financial advisors, legal/tax counsel or other trusted fiduciaries to help formulate the best giving options for the donors. Provide ongoing stewardship to planned giving donors and assist in management of the Frontier Legacy Society. Work closely with other University Advancement staff in the colleges and units, as well as outside organizations, to ensure effective and efficient gift coordination, support, planned giving information and stewardship. Facilitates relationships with donors, potential donors, upper level university administration, and university personnel by providing accurate information, problem solving techniques and strategies, and by identifying university-wide areas for donor engagement. Develop and implement comprehensive strategy to populate donor interest(s) categories on donor database and collect donor feedback. Collaborates with colleges and units to identify opportunities to efficiently and effectively collect and use information. Disseminate accurate donor information by identifying university-wide areas for donor engagement that align with University fundraising priorities and goals. Create a strategic plan for solicitation. Formulate and execute strategies and tactics to improve CSU’s donor potential. Conceptualize, and schedule donor visits. Demonstrated knowledge of and relevant ability with culturally diverse communities among potential target and constituent populations. Start Date: 08/01/2017
