Director - Gift Planning The candidate will provide strategic leadership and management of gift planning program in order to secure significant deferred gift commitments in donors' estate plans; collect funds from all matured estate gifts in a timely fashion; and facilitate significant current gifts made through various tax-favored techniques. Will manage revenue goals that include documentation of new planned gift expectancies (current goal of $3 million annually) and realized planned giving cash (current goal of $2 million annually). Ensures effective planned giving strategy development, review and implementation consistent with organizational strategy and direction. Analyzes trends, recommends and implements solutions. Maintains current knowledge of laws and regulations related to tax deductible charitable giving techniques. Monitors legislative updates and changes to case law to ensure compliance, assess impact on policies and practices. Work with major gifts team to develop fundraising initiatives that include a planned giving component. Collaborate with the Director of Development Communications to design and implement communication strategies that promote planned gift opportunities to a broad range of donors. Conduct ongoing research, analysis, and reporting of leading edge, best practices, and bench-marking relating to planned giving initiatives. Supervise routine administration of estate gifts. Develops and monitors the annual operating budget for gift planning program. Manage a portfolio of high level donors and prospects identified as likely to make an estate gift to the medical center. Provide major gift officers with illustrations and proposals for planned gift techniques. Serve as an organizational advocate and partner with professional advisors (attorneys, accountants, bankers, investment managers, financial planners, etc) to encourage and facilitate planned gift commitments from their clients. Oversee the planned giving work of the Major Gift Officers who cultivates and solicits donors for major gifts with a planned gift component. Direct work of a gift planning coordinator who handles probate pleadings; drafts attorney correspondence; and plans logistics and secures professional accreditation for semi-annual professional seminar series. Bachelor's degree is needed. Should have 7+ years of experience in development, planned giving, sophisticated estate planning practice, trust administration, financial planning, or equivalent work experience. Advance degree or certification in financial and/or tax field, such as JD degree, MBA, CTFA, CFA or CPA certification is advantageous. Development/planned giving experience working in a complex academic or medical center is advantageous. Professional knowledge and ability to effectively advise donors and fellow gift officers of charitable tax strategies is needed. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skill is needed. Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office (excel, word and power point), e-mail, internet, as well as specialized planned giving software to create compelling illustrations and proposals are advantageous.
