Deputy Director Communications The candidate duties include: Will help identify and develop company’s lobbying and political action strategies on priority federal legislative and policy issues, including direct lobbying and grassroots outreach, for integrated, effective advocacy across all levels of government and within appropriate industry associations; Share responsibility for helping ensure that legislative and regulatory issues within the U.S. are managed effectively; Help develop, manage and cultivate company’s engagement with key U.S. and international stakeholders on critical issues which affect business value. Key stakeholders include the White House, U.S. Government Agencies, both Houses of Congress, industry associations, NGO’s, think tanks and international institutions; Help to build and leverage a comprehensive map of U.S. based stakeholders, decision makers and influencers, and use this to systematically build and maintain relations to provide a sound platform for engagement; Develop technical expertise of primary issues assigned so as to be a key expert resource to the company, public officials, and the company stakeholder network; Maximize the effectiveness with trade associations by making them aware of company key priorities, the analytics behind them and the imperative to support them proactively; Provide oversight of the development, implementation and monitoring of lobbying activities and functions, including but not limited to the following: drafting issue briefs, white papers and lobbying points on important issues to company, drafting letters to members of congress, administration officials, as well as preparing congressional testimony, working with coalitions and trade associations to broaden and enhance company’s presence and leadership; Occasionally supervise and/or draft presentations, policy papers, speeches, written products and briefing documents for the company’s senior executive team; Provide legislative strategy counsel for major priority issues and lobbying campaigns for the company; Help efficiently and effectively manage outside political consultants, partners and vendors as necessary.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience in policy development and management. Must have experience presenting before senior executives and policymakers on important legislative and policy issues. Should have experience in proactively identifying, analyzing, and recommending opportunities and options for improving group efficiencies, as well as cost savings recommendations. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree, either J.D., M.B.A. or M.P.P; Corporate and/or major association experience; 12+ years of Senior-level experience in the Congress or the Executive Branch; High-level professional experience on congressional committees and/or executive branch agencies of relevant jurisdiction; Background in consumer health products. Must have seasoned Washington government relations professional with a strong track record of success in lobbying, advocacy and/or government public policy work. Should have extensive knowledge of the legislative and government relations process. Must be forward-thinking and proactive on legislative, regulatory and public policy issues. Should have exceptional knowledge of the workings of government and public policy, the NGO and broader political community. A strong leader with a relevant background in healthcare is needed. Should have proven ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the company organization, in all regions, including senior management, and in some cases, with political contacts such as congressional members and staff.
