ProfileDirector, US Renewables & Tax Planning The candidate will serve as an important tax leader responsible for all tax matters relating to the strategic expansion of investment and related development for certain renewable joint ventures in the US. Lead all aspects of diligence and tax planning related to acquisition and continued expansion & development of future renewable projects, including federal, state and local tax matters. Closely interacts with the M&A and Accounting teams to assure an understand of impacts relating to all tax matters as well as Accounting and HLBV for the various tax equity structures, while coordinating with JV Partners and Tax Equity Investors. Role includes working closely with tax advisors, including research, analysis, execution, documentation and presenting conclusions to leadership. The role further requires closely partnering with the Director of US Tax Reporting - Corporate and requires building strong relationships with the finance function and business line tax counterparts in the US SBU and corporate office. Responsible for the communication of all necessary information, including risks and opportunities, relating to the various renewable investments and development pipeline in order to assure complete and accurate inclusion in the AES, JV and JV Partner's SEC filings and related federal and state income tax returns. Responsible for complete and accurate tax analysis for any acquisition or restructuring related to investments in renewables. Responsibility for the critical assessment of advice from any external advisor, including external spend, in order to make M&A investment recommendations relating to the operation and growth of the US renewables portfolio and unique industry specific rules, while being mindful of the best interests of AES, each JV Partner and Tax Equity. Work collaboratively with finance, treasury and business development teams to provide high quality tax support for M&A and business driven transactions including application of unique industry specific rules. Work closely with the Director of US Tax Reporting - Corporate and JV Partner equivalent on technical tax issues outside of core transaction support work to ensure tax implications of business and tax driven transactions are timely communicated and appropriately reported in provision and tax filings. Ensure ETR and cash tax savings are achieved in line with annual targets. Monitor and anticipate legislative changes to U.S. federal and state and local tax laws, identifying opportunities and adverse consequences. Build and manage team member, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency, and mentor other members of the US-Domestic tax team. BS Accounting/CPA/MST or LLM strongly preferred. 12+ years of experience required; Big 4 accounting firm and large corporation tax department experience preferred. Strong industry, HLBV and partnership tax technical experience required. ASC740, modeling and compliance skills preferred. Excellent judgment and verbal communication skills; Ability to synthesize large volumes of information quickly and accurately to advise on economics of various strategic decisions; tailor information to convey, timely, the most relevant data and decision points with various audiences (e.g. AES leaders, JV Partners, Tax Equity, supervisors, tax peers and financing and business teams) required. Excellent problem solving, strategic & creative thinking and interpersonal skills required.
