Profile

Senior Manager, Tax Duties: Focuses on domestic federal and state income tax return compliance, plant, research and planning, and tax accounting, comprised of approximately 30 tax professionals. Leads managers, staff, and external consultants to achieve tax department goals and initiatives by leveraging strengths, removing barriers and supporting gaps. Will identify critical tax risks and issues, understand business, regulatory, and finance imperatives, and creatively develop and implement appropriate tax strategies aligned with PG&E’s objectives. The Senior Manager of Tax Accounting will provide management oversight and leadership to tax staff engaged in the following functions: Implementation of tax strategies and plans: Proactively identifies critical tax risks and issues by staying in tune with what’s happening in the rest of the Company and the industry. Reviews documentation of technical tax conclusions for accuracy, relevance and impact on Company. Manages and provides oversight on the most complex tax issues. Tax Accounting and Compliance: Provides oversight on the interpretation of policies, reporting requirements, rules and regulations which may also lead to the resolution of more complex tax accounting/financial statement disclosure issues. Coordinates issues, including resolutions with External Auditors. State & Local Tax: Strategically negotiates and settles issues with State Assessor. Oversees sales and use tax audit & the Appeals process. Regulatory: Provides oversight on appropriate techniques and methodologies for analyzing regulatory decisions. Providing federal, state and local tax information and analysis for CPUC and FERC filings. Audit: Strategically negotiates and settles issues with federal or state tax authorities. Provides tax planning advice to management. Research & Planning: Monitors, evaluates and communicates the impact of proposed or enacted changes in federal, state and local law, Fixed Assets. Researches and applies tax and regulatory matters, working with authorities to provide guidance on all fixed asset related issues. Leadership and Partnership: Leads direct reports through assignments by managing teams in dynamic and high-pressure situations by leveraging strengths across the Department, removing barriers and supporting gaps. Special Projects: From time to time, will be responsible for projects that don’t fall into any of the above categories such as accounting method changes and other projects that take a significant amount of time and resources. In the past this has included the Repairs Accounting Method Change, Section 263A accounting method changes, the implementation of a tax basis balance sheet.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. degree (Accounting or Tax emphasis preferred. 9+ years of corporate tax experience, in either public accounting or industry. Advanced degree in accounting, tax or law. C.P.A. or J.D. Degree. Regulated utility industry experience is highly desired. Project management skills; proven track record managing projects and outstanding organizational skills. Experience with external governmental audit management. Tax Accounting: Power Plan Provision Experience.
