Profile

Director, Studio Tax Planning Duties: Function as a Director within Corporate Tax and the business unit, directly supporting a specific group of business’ within the broader Studio Segment, and supporting other broader Corporate tax initiatives. Serve as a primary hands-on support resource for analysis of strategic Studio tax projects, transactional planning items and initiatives including transfer pricing, talent planning, worker classification, income tax withholding, local country tax rules, film incentives, complex tax research, and other relevant items. Provide support in a manner that optimizes efficiency, resources, and business unit satisfaction. Play a supporting or leadership role on multi-faceted teams. Support quantitative and qualitative support and analysis of strategic Studio tax projects, transactional planning items and initiatives. Support the VP, a supervising Director and other Business Unit leads with guidance on talent related matters including, for example, worker classification, impact of use of loan out corporations, income tax withholding requirements for foreign travel, computation of "gross-up" provisions, use of inducements, section 409A considerations (in coordination with other Tax Department members), etc. Strategic input on digital distribution models, with coordination with our indirect tax/sales and use tax experts and other stakeholders. Evaluate inter-company transactions and provide guidance on arm’s length pricing with coordination with internal and external resources. Support (as necessary) in compliance related planning, including accounting method changes, potential return positions, etc.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: CPA certification in a U.S. jurisdiction or Membership / licensure to a State Bar Association. BS/BA degree – Accounting or J.D. from an ABA approved law school. Masters Degree – Taxation or LL.M. in Taxation preferred. 15 years relevant combined tax experience in public accounting or a Fortune 100 tax department. Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain and develop top level talent. Ability to develop vision and foster an open and dynamic environment. Track record of achieving high levels of talent engagement and ability to inspire and motivate talent. Entrepreneurial, positive and client-service focused approach to work. Open, thoughtful, and positive leadership style. Ability to create and maintain strong work relationships while advising on the impropriety of taking certain tax positions. Flexibility in thought and solutions oriented approach to addressing tax matters. . Solid research and communication abilities. Experience with content production and distribution models. Financial statement and accounting literacy and/or an commitment to develop these skills further if coming from a legal back ground. Able to play a supporting or leadership role on multi-faceted teams as needed. Ability to craft a vision, align interests, build coalitions, and motivate both within the Tax team and multi-disciplined teams. Ability to apply different leadership styles depending on context and stakeholder groups to motivate them, build consensus and align interests. MS Excel. Lexis/Nexis, RIA, Westlaw or other tax research software.
