Senior Associate, Japanese Expatriate Tax The candidate will analyze the tax implications of working internationally and filing income tax returns in multiple jurisdictions for companies with expatriate employees, assist clients with implementing leading processes and technologies related to tax compliance and strategy, including preparation and review of U.S. Federal and State(s) individual income tax returns. Will assist clients in operating their payrolls in the United States and around the world, by preparing gross-up calculations, payroll withholding calculations, collecting compensation information, and calculating international assignment allowances. Process payroll for outbound assignees, those working in the United States and those working around the world, and process split payroll for assignees paid partially from the home country payroll and partially from the host country payroll. Provide global coordination with country specific third party payroll providers, including initial set up and ongoing management. Provide company resources to help clients understand and strategically respond to the Internal Revenue Service and other taxing authorities, as well advisory projects. Supervise and aid in the development and training of employees while developing and mentoring Associates and Interns.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have Bachelor’s degree, J.D., LL.M. in Taxation, and/or Master’s Degree in Taxation (MST) from an accredited college/university. Should be working towards a CPA or Enrolled Agent designation. Should have 3+ years of broad experience in general, federal, and/or international taxation. Also 1 year of public accounting and/or tax experience is essential. Knowledge of a broad range of tax and administrative issues impacting international assignees is essential. Ability to speak and write fluent Japanese a plus.
