Law Firm
Summer Associate
Summer Associate Program, 2018 The summer associates are given a unique opportunity to work on real-life matters and experience what the firm has to offer. The summer program is structured to support and develop students through a hands-on approach. A summer workflow coordinator monitors the summer associate work and the evaluation process, and each summer associate is assigned an associate mentor, someone with whom to discuss ideas and who will assist with the transition from law school to law firm. The firm provides students opportunities to attend trials, depositions, and hearings, and assist with corporate transactions. The firm also features a socially active summer program, which allows students to get to know the attorneys with whom they work. Research the elements of the torts (outrage, negligent infliction of emotional distress [NIED], invasion of privacy, and trespass) newly alleged in the counterclaims, and analyze the likelihood that a summary judgment of dismissal would be granted regarding each claim. Research Washington case law regarding new tort causes of action and motions for leave to file amended complaint. Review previous complaints filed against defendant company in order to determine whether a pattern of misconduct exists. Research Blue Sky laws to determine which state's laws apply to an interstate sale of securities. Assist with the research and drafting of a motion for summary judgment in a case involving an underage employee alleging assault by a former employer. 2L law students who are academically successful, motivated, and enjoy working with a broad range of attorneys among a variety of practice areas will be considered.
