Staff Counsel Duties: Responsible for counseling internal clients at all levels, negotiating and managing contracts with government and education customers, and supporting Verizon and legal department initiatives and strategies. Will be a business-minded professional with excellent communication skills, a strong grasp of government procurement law and technology contracts, and the ability to work independently with internal clients and attorneys. Serve as primary legal support and trusted advisor for internal sales, service and other support teams that interact with or support state and local government and education customers. Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements associated with sales to state and local government and education customers. Interpret and advise on government solicitations and make pragmatic recommendations on responding based on a risk analysis, ensuring adherence to company policies. Keep abreast of evolving laws, regulations and industry guidance that impact sale of products and services to government customers and assist in designing and implementing policies to ensure compliance with same. Support compliance in day-to-day sales activities, including providing training and counseling to internal clients on the unique procurement, disclosure and ethical requirements associated with doing business with government entities. Assist in efforts to develop, implement and enhance Verizon processes and policies that improve time to revenue without material increase in risk.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD degree and 6+ years of work experience. Member in good standing of bar of at least one state. 6+ years of relevant work experience. 5+ years as a practicing attorney with a law firm, corporation or the government. Knowledge of state and local government contracting law and technology transactions. Strong academic performance at a highly rated law school. Business acumen, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
