Staff Attorney The candidate will research, interpret, and advise on various issues, as well as review contracts for the business units and ensure the Department is responding timely and appropriately to all legal complaints; assist in regulatory review by analyzing and proposing changes to ensure the company complies with applicable federal and state regulations; developing and implementing policies, procedures, and controls that establish compliance with applicable regulations, statues, and rules; analyze risk effectively through evaluation of existing laws, regulations, enforcement actions, case law, and other pertinent guidance; be responsible for reviewing contracts for the business unit to ensure provisions are favorable to the company and meet vendor management requirements; assist the VP, Compliance and Legal Affairs in negotiating contractual terms; work with the Regulatory Compliance Resolution Specialist to ensure escalated complaints are timely and appropriately answered, and ensure legal matters are handled in a timely and efficient fashion; interpret company policies and regulatory requirements to determine if further company action is needed to address identified issue(s); recommend long term resolution to manager to ensure indentified continuous issues are addressed; follow up on outstanding issues to ensure resolution, both as it applies to the individual complaint and to company policy, if applicable; provide responsive, courteous and knowledgeable service to Branches and internal departments; identify and stay current on changes in industry regulations that impact work product; ensure internal systems are updated as regulations change; provide legal advice with respect to compliance matters to the business units and work with business units as needed to ensure implementation of changes to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory guidance; perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have J.D. degree and Bachelor’s Degree or college courses/technical training related to Business, Finance, Legal or related field; admission to the California state bar and in good standing; 1+ year of related legal experience and two years prior mortgage or related industry experience preferred; knowledge of overall mortgage lending process; excellent verbal and written communication skills; very strong research skills; ability to analyze facts and data to determine issue and resolution; work independently in a fast-paced environment to complete work following procedures; strong detail orientation and highly organized; manage multiple priorities and deadlines; strong sense of urgency and responsiveness; prior experience using PDF/Adobe programs and Microsoft Suite. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; basic math skills; comfortable in a paperless environment; be ethical, with a commitment to company values
