Staff Attorney The candidate must have support Sponsorship, Center Marketing and Center Operations Departments by managing and conducting shopping center contract review, drafting and negotiation. Advise these departments in matters relating to general commercial and corporate law, compliance with corporate policies, and matters relating to sweepstakes, contests, social media, and privacy.Assist other departments, such as Development and IT, with legal issues, including contract review, onan as needed basis. Provide overall legal advice relating to contracts (including negotiation and guidance on termination and transition rights, enforcement and disputes), legal guidance on construction law matters (including construction lien issues), and advise on legal and business risk associated with business opportunities. Handle assigned special projects relating to global/portfolio driven contract issues/initiatives. Assist Senior Attorney, Assistant General Counsel and General Counsel in various ad hoc projects. Assist Senior Attorney in the preparation and completion of resource materials, including creating and updating templates, relating to shopping center operations. Develop in-house training materials and host training sessions on various areas of law and corporate policy including, sweepstakes and advertising law, and general legal training. Lead and manage the updating of an organized internal resource for best-practice and example materials for use by others in the department. Maintain current best practices in various areas of the law and emerging business trends including social media, cybersecurity, sweepstakes, labor law, real estate and construction law.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate will have J.D, Licensed Attorney (preferably in Michigan), must have at least 1-5 years of prior legal experience focused on contract review, drafting and negotiation. Experience with advertising law, sweepstakes law, and privacy law a plus. Highly organized and able to handle working on multiple projects at once. Detail oriented and able to handle fast paced work environment to ensure matters are handled in an efficient and timely manner. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to distill complex legal issues into clear and concise feedback to business teams. Technologically savvy and able to adapt to digital workspace without significant training. Able to work independently and help business groups understand legal risks while maximizing business goals. Find creative solutions to legal issues and be willing to take and justify risks. Able to conduct effective legal research.Able to effectively speak in front of large groups and lead training sessions.
