Profile

Senior Legal Counsel Duties: Provides legal telecommunications expertise and compliance program management for the three regulated telco businesses, and provides counsel on related issues, including: Manage federal, international and state compliance strategy and programs. Ensure timely filing of all regulatory filings and responses; partner with internal teams to provide and review necessary information to complete forms. Maintain compliance strategy between regulated and unregulated product offerings. Ensure record keeping compliance and product review across the entire portfolio to determine which products are subject to various compliance requirements and ensure the requirements are met. Advise product teams on design and implementation of any new audio initiatives or features which impact information services. Apply telco expertise to drive product strategy. Monitor evolving regulatory landscape and prepare business to capitalize on new opportunities. Serves as an embedded legal business partner to select product teams to provide counsel on all product related issues and accelerate the successful achievement of product strategy, including: Respond to product teams on wide variety of issues including IP, privacy, regulatory, terms of service, marketing programs, and innovation. Maintain, improve and implement processes for legal support of product activities. Ensure product teams understand and adhere to privacy requirements and provide guidance for privacy-by-design initiatives and other product/compliance matters, Manage product processes needed for compliance with EU data regulations and other programs. Provide proactive guidance to product team on global privacy and data protection laws, best practices and the obligations of compliance and privacy frameworks. Review and ensure international, new market entry compliance. Participate in new product/business initiatives and product development activities to identify and escalate compliance and privacy considerations. Perform privacy impact assessment of product initiatives. Review and advise on compliance and privacy impacts from product initiatives and create plans or responses to mitigate risk and ensure compliance. Assist with drafting and reviewing privacy/data protection/security language for third party agreements. Plays a key role on the legal team to grow the legal team’s level of expertise in privacy and telco matters to keep us on the cutting edge: Ensure compliance programs stay current with evolving privacy and telco landscapes and that training programs are prioritized. Ensure the legal team understands product activities, strategy and timelines for overall legal readiness. Engage and manage outside counsel as appropriate for scale and efficiency. Contribute broadly to the legal team to ensure continued effective delivery of legal services.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree and membership in a state Bar required. 5-7 years’ experience required in privacy, product counseling, telco and/or international compliance, with a mix of in-house and law firm experience preferred. Passion for learning new things, excellent legal and business judgment, flexible and adaptable, with a keen sense of humor, and strong communication skills. Proactive problem solver, smart, thoughtful, able to see issues before they become blockers and eager to accelerate business outcomes. Outcomes focused approach to legal advice with risk-appropriate, find-solutions attitude. Strong team player with collaborative mindset and commitment to maintaining excellent legal team reputation as a partner. Knowledge of telecommunications and regulatory compliance requirements. Knowledge of product related issues across the full spectrum of product development, management and marketing. General knowledge of US and International laws, rules and regulations related to privacy including EU Data Privacy, Safe Harbor/Privacy Shield, Model Clauses and GDPR, and interest in expanding knowledge. Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze issues, and think critically to resolve problems. Proven ability to work effectively individually, cross-functionally and in a team environment. Strong project management and communication experience and skills. Demonstrated ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing environment. Possess high level of business acumen to work with business partners to find solutions to business needs and legal requirements.
